101 things to do when you are upset

I wanted to make a list of things you can do to help distract your mind when you are upset without self harming.

  1. Go for a walk
  2. Dig out an old coloring book and COLOR!
  3. Cuddle up with some stuffed animals
  4. Watch a Disney movie
  5. Paint your nails a bright color
  6. Listen to your favorite song (and sing along!)
  7. Dance 
  8. Make some hot coco/tea/coffee
  9. Call up a friend you haven't talked to in a while
  10. Read your favorite book/story
  11. Spend some time with your pets
  12. Tidy up/redecorate your room 
  13. Eat a big bowl of ice cream
  14. Bake some sweets (like cake, cookies, or cupcakes)
  15. Meditate 
  16. Take a nice relaxing bubble bath (bonus if you play with the bubbles!)
  17. Try out a new funky hair style
  18. Blow bubbles
  19. Order delivery (Pizza and Chinese delivery is always yummy)
  20. Write a letter about how you feel and then tear it up or burn it 
  21. Put stickers all over your notebooks
  22. Watch cute animal videos on Youtube
  23. Lie down out in the sun
  24. Stargaze
  25. Try making origami 
  26. Cry (Sometimes a good long cry can help make things better)
  27. Make a mini comic with stick figures
  28. Write a story 
  29. Give yourself a relaxing pedicure and then put on some fuzzy slippers
  30. Go through your closet. Put together some cute new outfits. If you have some clothes you rarely/never wear consider donating them to Goodwill/Salvation Army/Something similar
  31. Stretch/Yoga
  32. Write things you love about yourself (or things you want to start loving about yourself) on sticky notes and stick them around your room 
  33. Play a board game with friends/family
  34. Eat some chocolate
  35. Go shopping at a second hand store and look for some good deals
  36. Go for a walk through the mall and window shop
  37. Go to the park and play on the swings
  38. Take pictures of yourself, pets, your favorite things, outside, anything you want!
  39. Throw your pajamas in the dryer for a couple minutes so they get warm, and then wrap yourself up in them
  40. Go for a walk downtown and try to say "Hello" or "Good day" to some people you see
  41. Make some scrapbooking pages about your favorite things
  42. Take a day trip to a nearby town you don't visit often
  43. Build a fort out of stuffed animals, pillows, and blankets 
  44. Scream into a pillow
  45. Get some bubble gum and see how big you can make the bubbles
  46. Go through your CDs or DVD and listen to/watch your favorites.
  47. Dye your hair with chalk 
  48. Knit, crochet, sew. And if you don't know how look at some tutorials online and learn 
  49. Take up a new hobby
  50. Have a pillow fight
  51. Play a video game you haven't played in a while
  52. Play a piano or another instrument
  53. Draw a picture of your pets
  54. Take a relaxing nap
  55. Day dream about the perfect vacation 
  56. Tell someone they are cute 
  57. Rewatch your favorite kids show (Netflix has tons!)
  58. Go to the library and check out some new books
  59. Go to a local art gallery 
  60. Play dress up/pretend 
  61. Open the windows and let some fresh air into your house
  62. Go to a petting zoo and play with the animals
  63. Visit a local shelter and give the puppies and kitties some attention
  64. Make some homemade chicken noodle soup
  65. Jump around 
  66. Go swimming
  67. Write poetry 
  68. Skype call with a friend
  69. Play games on facebook 
  70. Listen to relaxing music
  71. Watch a nature show
  72. Dust your shelves 
  73. Watch a stand up comedy 
  74. Shop online
  75. Go bowling
  76. Play laser tag
  77. Go to the arcade 
  78. Read funny comics online
  79. Create a photo collage
  80. Read inspirational quotes
  81. Play dress up games
  82. Invite a friend over to spend the night and stay up playing games and watching movies
  83. Try putting together a puzzle
  84. Read a magazine
  85. Give yourself a makeover 
  86. Try and find your old neopets account and give your pets some attention 
  87. Watch an anime you keep forgetting you wanted to watch 
  88. Help feed someone
  89. Make an amazon wishlist 
  90. If it is winter make a snowman, snow angel, snow fort, or even have a snowball fight 
  91. Punch something soft (like a pillow)
  92. Rip up paper
  93. Go look for the prettiest rock you can find and take it home with you
  94. Burn some candles, incense, ect
  95. Find your old Gameboy and play some Pokemon 
  96. Volunteer at a local soup kitchen, animal shelter, ect
  97. Learn a new language
  98. Write a letter to friend or family member telling them you love them
  99. Go look at an antique shop
  100. Google up some new recipes
